Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are a frequent cause of hospitalization in newborns, specifically those less than sixty days of age, and the optimal intravenous (IV) antibiotic protocol for this vulnerable group remains undefined. We conducted a retrospective analysis of infants at a tertiary referral center with confirmed UTIs receiving intravenous antibiotics, to determine if there was a connection between the length of IV antibiotic therapy (longer than three days versus three days) and treatment failure rates.
